Day trippin’, Ghent & Bruges

Back on a Guided Tour

I was very excited to see Bruges, this was our second coach tour that we pre-booked before our trip. Our tour guide was great and knowledgeable, the coach itself was comfy enough. But especially after our amazing time the day prior, we really felt like we were on somebody else’s schedule.

Caught a view of the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula from the coach

The coach took us to Ghent where we were lead on a walking tour throughout the city. Ghent is a medieval town with a lot of its old architecture well preserved. The Graslei, (grass quay) along the river in Ghent was amazing. The town really makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time. After the walking tour we ended in a square and had 30 min or so of free time (why I hate coach tours). Day choose to check out the Ghent Altarpiece a painting by Jan van Eyck, I on the other hand found a seat at a bar patio and sampled some Belgium Beers.

We loaded back up on the coach and set off for Bruges. I’ll admit, the reason why I was so excited to see this place was because of the movie In Bruges. The place looked magical in the movie but it didn’t do the town justice, the place is amazing. We both would love to come back here again. For the tour itself, we had a walking tour of the town, we braked for lunch, did a canal tour, then had an hour for free time. Day went hunting for Belgian chocolates to take home for gifts and I felt that I had to climb the bell tower (Belfry of Bruges).

We loaded back up on the coach and headed back to Brussels. On the way back we chatted about how the day went and compared it to the day prior. Without a doubt, renting a vehicle and just exploring was so much better.
